Portfolio

Fritz Horstman

Site design and build, content management system customization.

A portfolio site for artist Fritz Horstman. The design is simple and clear, intended to transparently showcase Fritz’s powerful and diverse art.

I designed and built the site using a customized version of Radiant, a Rails–based CMS. This allows Fritz to easily add new projects to his site, update his news page, and make other changes.

Rejaw

Interface and site design, front–end programming.

Rejaw was a web application developed by Infoteria Corp. USA while I was their Design Director. At the time, we described it as real-time social microblogging.

Under the surface, it was a Ruby on Rails application. I was responsible for all front–end design and development. More specifically, that included Rails code from the controllers on up, HTML generated via Haml templates, progressive and cross–browser CSS, and unobtrusive Javascript based on Prototype and Scriptaculous.

Sweet Soil

Web design, site build, online sales setup.

A collaboration with graphic designer Katy Blander. Sweet Soil is a short documentary film about four family farms in the Berkshires of western Massachusetts.

Katy designed the site’s visual appearance and drew the illustrations; I built the actual site and configured the online sales mechanism.

Dealicio

Interface and graphic design, template build.

A project for a web advertising startup. I created a design for their advertising widgets and landing pages, and coded templates based on that design. The templates are structured so that their basic appearance remains consistent across different products, but each individual ad is easily customizable in its details.

uvList

Interface and site design, application and site build.

A web startup that offered free online classifieds to the Upper Valley region of Vermont and New Hampshire.

I designed and built the application from the ground up. Launched in the spring of 2005, the uvList was one of the first public Ruby on Rails applications.
